In the Beginning the of the
Walking Horse show years they were entered into many shows that hosted
various breeds, and offered Walking Horse classes. Most shows in these
early years they where shown in the results as the Plantation Walking
Horse. Various early publications listed The Plantation Walking Horse
at shows that included, Saddlebred, Welsh Pony, Arabian, Morgan, & even
Shetland Pony. As it wasn't until later years that shows programs would
reference them as a Tennessee Walking Horse.
The first major show for the
Walking Horse was
The Tennessee Walking Horse
National Celebration which started in 1939. Taking place each year in late summer.
In the beginning it was only a local show & slowly turned into a 10
day show, Ending on Saturday night with the naming of the World Grand Champion.
For the first time in 67 years there was NO World Grand Champion.
I hope you enjoy your visit
to some of the shows I've researched. I will be adding to the shows as I
can.
