The following is in part from:
1941 Saddle & Bridle Magazine
Bought as a 4 year old by Tom J. Moss, Big Horn, WY to head his herd. For several years
Mr. Moss had been buying walking mares, selecting them carefully for type &
breeding, as well as color. At his Rafter 33 Ranch he wanted to produce
walking horses of Palomino coloring, so desirable in Western United States,
and so beautiful to see.
| In searching for a
stallion to head his band of mares, he covered all of Tennessee studying
various types before he found Yellow Jacket. Here was a stallion of
notable breeding, and a proven sire. Of the 25 foals dropped '41 in TN
by Yellow Jacket, 17 were Palomino colored.
Yellow Jacket's certificate shows the best
blood-lines known to the walking horse breed. By Last Chance, by
Hunter's Allen F-10 & out of the famous old yellow mare, Golden Lady by
Eddie Hal F-14. He has the bone, substance, natural motion &
perfect conformation of the true walker. His colts all have these
qualities. Recently Mr. Moss made a
trip to TN to buy up all of the colts by Yellow Jacket that could be
found. He was unsuccessful in this venture, however, as all of them had
been sold & were gone from the state. Former owners reported that Yellow
Jacket's get were in demand by those who recognized their superior
qualities. |
 |
Tom J. Moss recognized
as one of the nations foremost walking horse owners & enthusiasts. It
was through his efforts that the Missouri State Fair added classes &
stakes for walking horses. He was the first director of the TWHA
(Tennessee Walking Horse Association) chosen from outside of TN.
'45-46 Owner: Dr. Calvin H.
Hall, Casper, WY
