Snowalker Stable of Santa Fe, New
Mexico, (bordering the Tesuque Indian Pueblo and Santa Fe National Forest)
Snowalker Stable had it's beginnings in suburban Chicago in the 1950s when
my grandmother would tell me stories of her Tennessee Walking Horse, Red.
I grew up horse crazy, falling asleep at night in the cowboy outfit my
grandmother had purchased for me. My parents wondered where I had come
from.... certainly not from them. When I was thirteen I bought my first
horse for $5, a red roan aged Welsh Pony mare, who taught me the real
world of horses from the ground up. I traded up to my first horse at age
15, a two year old Appaloosa/TWH cross mare with 4 weeks of training under
her belt. She was sweet and smooth. We did everything together until I
went to college in 1972.
In the early 1990s the present day elements
of Snowalker Stable came together while we were in North Dakota. I
purchased the 1987 red sabino mare
F-88's Pearls and Lace from Duane Ripple. Pearl became our
first foundation mare. She carries Allan F-1 on her papers twice. Both
lines of her pedigree contain foundation horses. She is line bred Merry
Boy to the point of being a genetic daughter. Pearl was tough, hardy and
naturally gaited. Perfectly suited to the harsh climate of North Dakota
and required no special training to achieve perfect Walking Horse gaits.
My daughter Sally wanted a palomino mare. We
searched the country until we found
Miss Golden
Girl, aka Missy, a 1984 model at Walkers West in Texas. We fell in
love with her sire, The Gold Rush Is On. Missy needed a lot of work, but
we knew she would be just like her famous sire with a little TLC and time.
Missy has never disappointed us! She was a top show horse for Sally and
trail horse/broodmare for me. Missy is line bred Midnight Sun. Missy is
the foundation member of our rider rehab program giving back courage and
trust to all privileged enough to ride her. Her daughter, Investment
Vixen, and son,
Too Much Sangria,
are following in her hoof prints. Before
The Gold Rush Is On passed away in 2006, we bred Pearl to him
and got Tesuque Gold Rush and Dangerous Flaming Flicka to him and got
Senorita Milagro De Oro (Miss Miracle Of Gold.) Also in the early 1990's,
I attended the Minnesota Horse Expo where I watched and then met Pat
Parelli for the first time. I was very impressed with his message and try
to follow it to this day. Parelli taught me horse problems were human
problems and if something doesn't work, try the opposite. With his
influence we have taken many horses that were going to be put down or sold
to the killer buyers and turned them into well trained, beloved trail
horses. Thank you Pat!

The goals of our breeding program are to
produce naturally gaited, healthy, sound, sane horses that can adapt to
whatever is put before them. Horses live a long, productive life (30+
years) with good care, sound genetics, a solid training foundation and
some luck. We use a Parelli based training program for both the young
stock and the horses that come in for rehabilitation to build the
foundation they need in life. Parelli's work is reproducible for all
horsemen and women, off all ages, fun to work with, promotes safety and
common sense with horses and gets excellent results.

The Snowalker stallions all have been great
ambassadors for their breed. Our first stallion was
Eldorado's Surprise, a TWHBEA Versatility Champion who was a
homozygous black tobiano with head nod, over stride and a rocking-chair
canter to die for. He was sold to Deanne Hasler when we moved to New
Mexico in 2001. Sweet Sundae Surprise and
Pearl's Sassy Lace remain in our herd.
Our beloved 1988 light golden chestnut
stallion,
Too Much Champagne
was purchased from his breeder, Andrea Disney in 2005. He is a great sire
and trail horse to this day. Tesuque Gold Rush is our home bred golden,
dappled stallion out of F-88's Pearls And Lace and by The Gold Rush Is On.
He has the perfect blend of traits we have valued over the years from both
his sire and his dam.
He is healthy, great to ride alone, with
mares or geldings. He sired one filly this spring out of a very old mare.
That was the only mare bred to him last year. |

Our former stallion is
Tennessee Goldust,
the legendary palomino stallion championed by the late Leo Barth then Jane
Dewitt of Four Season's Stable in Michigan. Goldust has nearly 300 beloved
offspring across the world. Every week I receive pictures and stories of
how much his offspring mean to their owners. It is rare to see such an out
pouring of love and devotion. We expect three foals sired by Goldust in
April 2009.
We just had our first foal sired by
Tennessee Goldust at Snowalker Stable. She is a beautiful palomino filly
with a broken strip and two hind stockings, out of our Armed and Dangerous
mare, Flicka. The filly is by far the largest foal Flicka has had. The new
filly joins her two sisters, Milagro De Oro and Dangerous Red Hot Pepper. |
