Copys Talk Of Texas

By Kary Woltman
The Black Stallion
My husband, Terry, and I are spoiled for we are the unbelievably fortunate
owners of Copy's Talk Of Texas, or Tex as he is better known. Tex is the
consummate gentleman. He is gentle, intelligent, and willing to do
anything for us. He is truly that "once in a lifetime" horse. This Supreme
Versatility Championship is but one of his many accomplishments. Tex is a
determined herder of cows, an avid big game hunter, an outstanding driving
horse, and a successful competitive trail horse. In addition to all that,
in the winter Tex earns his keep as a mounted patrol horse. This is
definitely a horse that will try just about anything.
The standing joke between my husband and me is that I would get rid of
Terry before I would ever even think of getting rid of Tex. Tex and I have
an unbreakable bond strengthened by ever-increasing levels of trust. It is
this trust that enables us to go on our frequent rides without saddle or
bridle. During these rides, Tex and I truly become one.
Tex first made us aware of his outstanding potential when, at the age of 2
1/2, we took him on a wilderness ride. One day, I decided that I wanted to
ride the mare that had been carrying our equipment. I transferred all the
equipment onto Tex and he just followed along with no rope or halter, all
the while minding his manners. We could tell he was a bit insulted by
having to act as the pack horse but he did it just the same to please us.
So, you may be asking, how I ended up with such as magnificent steed.
Well, here's how the story goes – Once upon a time there was a little girl
named Kary. Kary lived in Idaho and spent most of her free time dreaming
of horses. By age eight she had read what would always be her favorite
book, Black Beauty, she had decided that she wanted to be a horse
rancher's wife when she grew up, and she had received her first horse, a
gelding that her dad bought for $250. She soon joined 4-H where she
learned to ride bareback and without a bridle. Needless to say, things
were working out for the girl who dreamed of horses.
Things continued to work out when, during college, Kary did an internship
at Starwood Ranch, a working horse ranch in Aspen, Colorado. Kary's job at
the ranch was training two-year-old Tennessee Walking Horses. She had
never seen a walking horse before and was so impressed with the breed that
she swore she would own one someday. She enjoyed Colorado so much during
the internship that she also swore that she would live there someday.
A few years later, Kary moved to Denver to attend Veterinary Technician
School. While there she met a veterinarian by the name of Terry Woltman.
They fell in love and were soon married. After their marriage they
relocated to Aspen and bought a black walking horse gelding. They then
moved on to Grand Junction where they purchased a black walking horse
broodmare, Sugar Jet's Pride. Shortly thereafter, on a trip to Texas, they
found their perfect black stallion, Copy's Talk Of Texas. Their horse
ranch was officially started and all of Kary's dreams had come true.
Tex now has about ten mares of his own and has put Flying Walker Ranch on
the map.
And they lived happily ever after!
