On a rainy day in November of the year 2002 at a Lone Star
Gaited Pleasure Horse Association (LSGPHA) event in the great state of
Texas, my beautiful 6 y/o stallion ‘Starring Uptown’s Jubilee’
or best known as Tyson, and I earned the last points needed to achieve
the coveted title and become the newest TWHBEA Adult Supreme
Versatility Champion!
Quiet an achievement for a horse that was bought by my husband Gary,
sight unseen, as a good re-sale prospect in November of 1998 upon the
advice of our trainer. Once I laid eyes upon this magnificent stallion,
I knew he was already home and I also knew without a doubt he soon would
become the absolute love of my life!
Shortly after, in the summer of 1999 I signed up for the TWHBEA Adult
Versatility Program and we began our journey together towards the highly
prized goal of Adult Supreme Versatility Champion! We not only achieved
this goal, but in the process of the hours of fun and training we formed
a partnership like none other, forging an unbreakable bond between us.
Tyson possesses tremendous heart and a wonderful spirit and he truly is
a one-of-a-kind horse for which words are inadequate to describe exactly
how much he means to me.
Tyson, being the powerful stallion he is, was somewhat intimidating
for me in the early days. Gathering advice from a friend who gave me
some help and along with Tyson’s exceptional temperament, I soon
realized working with a stallion was no different than any other horse I
had experience with already. Very soon we were well into our development
as a cohesive team, delighting in the results we were able to achieve
together!
During 2000 we began making great progress, completing several
required categories while breezing through the model, water-glass and
e-z rider events and ever so steadily moving towards our cherished goal.
Tyson demonstrated how athletic he really is in the Western Pleasure,
barrel and pole events by finishing in the top three every time while
competing against more experienced quarter horses.
By the end of 2001, only 9 meager points were needed to earn the
championship title - and only a total of 30 points to earn the SVC! I
made it my goal to finish during the upcoming year and little did I know
that Tyson would step-up-to-the-plate by becoming so much faster in his
speed events and executing those wonderful flying lead changes in the
Western Riding events! When that last point was won on that rainy day in
November, Tyson and I accomplished what we set out to do those many
months before. Our relationship has definitely become a mutual affair of
the heart!
I wish to thank everyone who helped Tyson and I achieve the highest
honor that is bestowed in the TWHBEA Versatility Program. Your support
has been awesome and the encouragement you gave kept us focused on our
goal. Most of all, I thank my husband and children for their unwavering
support and inspiration to go for the gold, even when it seemed unlikely
it would ever happen. My family and I are proud of the achieved results
that working towards such an important goal so closely together have
brought, and we will all continue to benefit from these exciting
experiences that have so enriched our lives. Working with this
magnificent stallion has been an exceptional adventure for me personally
and one I will never forget!
Starring Uptown’s Jubilee will begin his breeding
career in the spring of 2003 and 'Tyson’ babies will hit the ground in
2004. Now, more than ever, I believe what Angela Langeston-Neilson,
managing editor of Steppin’ Out newspaper, once wrote, “Versatility
stallions are truly the jocks of the show world” as no other words so
succinctly describe this newly awarded Supreme Versatility Champion!
I would
like to thank Debbie Clark for
giving us the
opportunity to know this extraordinary
Tennessee Walking Horse Versatility Champion.
