Generator’s Whisper, 2001 Supreme Versatility Champion, began her life on the Beech’s farm near Lewisburg, TN. Betty & I first saw the weanling when looking at the consignments for the Prides Generator production sale. After the bidding was over & the gavel fell, she moved to South Carolina & grew for the next year & a half. Naturally Betty wanted Whisper in her name & I had to agree, but after selling my bay mare she gave Whisper to me for Christmas.

Training started when she was two at Poole Training Center. After a few months she returned home & Betty started riding her full time. The first two years they competed in Two Gait classes on the SC Walking Horse circuit & they improved together. By the second year of showing they had most of the SC Two Gait High Point Awards. The next winter work started on cantering & then driving in harness. Betty kept saying she wanted me to give her back, but all I would agree to was to give her Whisper’s first foal.

The next couple years had Betty & Whisper winning South Carolina Plantation Horse of the Year Awards. These years also saw the move into Versatility Competition at pleasure shows in the Carolinas & Georgia.

The Carolina Walkers drill team was formed in 1995 to promote the Sound, Versatile Tennessee Walking Horse. Betty & Generator’s Whisper were founding members & spent many hours in practice & riding at the front with the American flag. This group has ridden in ceremonies in North Carolina, South Carolina & Georgia promoting the breed & presenting the colors.

By the summer of 1996 Betty & Whisper were starting to look at what was needed to complete the Adult Versatility Championship level. To compete & win some awards was important to the pair, but to go for a Versatility Championship meant an organized effort to get the points necessary even in the events they were not accustomed to competing in. That is where more lessons for Betty became important. At the same time I was taking the same lessons & riding Jet Powered Threat in the same classes & competing for the same ribbons as Betty & Whisper. It was a common occurrence to walk into a restaurant & talk about how my wife beats me on Saturday night…. Sometimes we even had to explain that to wide eyed patrons sitting near our horse show crowd! The Adult Versatility Championship milestone was reached & the pair continued on toward the Supreme Versatility level.

Generator's Whisper

Betty & Whisper ended up a couple points behind me at the end of the 1997 season. Then in 1998 while Jerry & I worked on his last few points, tragedy struck & Whisper fell ill. Betty was not able to show her for many months. Recovery was slow but Betty kept working with Whisper to bring her back.

After a good start in the spring of 1999, a relapse caused great concern. Fortunately medication & time brought Whisper back for the fall of 1999. Betty passed the reins to me so she could spend more hours with her new horse, Gen’s Sir Charles. Whisper & I rode the 2000 season chasing the Reining & Western riding points she needed to finish her Championship.

We fought more problems but ended the season within sight of the finish line. With just one reining point to go, George & Whisper finished what Betty & Whisper had started at the first show of the 2001 season in Camden, SC. We got that last reining point at the show the Carolina Walkers sponsored in front of a hometown crowd.

Whisper moved very quickly to her next challenge. She was bred to Betty’s Supreme Versatility Champion, Gen’s Sir Charles her first foal arrived in the spring of 2002.

Naturally Betty & I were so excited. But, she reminded me I did promise her Whisper’s first foal. I just cannot figure out how to get out of that promise….

Whisper moved very quickly to her next challenge. Bred to Gen’s Sir Charles her 2nd foal arrived April 2003
